Most women that are expecting realize that there is a good chance of developing some type of morning sickness. However, they are not always aware of the various natural remedies that are available to help them overcome this condition. This means that a lot of women just put up with it and then have to suffer several months of sickness when they could have taken steps to make things better.
A treatment that works for one woman will not necessarily work for another. Every woman is different and there is no one treatment or cure that will necessarily help everyone. You just have to try the various options and see what works best for you.
While some nausea during pregnancy remedies are relatively obvious, there are others that are not so widely discussed or promoted. Here are some ideas that you can try to see what might suit you.
For many different reasons, you should try to stay well hydrated to sustain your health and that of your baby. You shouldn’t try to drink too much in one go as this may provide some other complications so try to take sips of water on a regular basis throughout the day. You can also look to drink other fluids like sports drinks if you have been throwing up. These drinks contain salt, glucose, and potassium that will replace electrolytes you may have lost.
While it may seem like a simple idea, eating crackers can really help with relieving pregnancy nausea. Sometimes eating a little food will help to avoid nauseous feelings which can start when you have an empty stomach. Many women will find that crackers are something that they are able to eat without too much difficulty so they nibble on them when they feel like it (this might even be before getting up in the morning).
As well as the cracker strategy, you might find that it is better to reduce the size of your meals but have them more often. So you could have 5 smaller meals per day rather than 3 large meals. You can also snack during the day providing that you are eating sensibly.
Avoid foods and odors that could trigger your nausea or gag reflex. Try to limit your diet to food that is relatively bland. You may also find that hot food has more of a smell so try eating your food cold or at room temperature.
Ginger is also another of the morning sickness cures that you can try. It has been used for a long time, in all types of cultures, as an option to settle upset stomach problems. You can get ginger in various forms including ginger ales that are made with real ginger. You can also make your own ginger tea by grating fresh ginger into some hot water. Another option is to try powdered ginger root supplements but make sure that you discuss this with your doctor first.
Another option that you can try is acupressure. This has become increasingly popular, partly because it’s something you can easily do yourself. It is based on the idea of applying pressure to a specific part of the body which is located approximately two inches above the crease of the inner wrist. Applying pressure to this point can provide relief of the vomiting and nausea that you might be experiencing. There are wrist bands that are readily available that will help with applying the proper pressure.
It is worthwhile trying to also adopt a positive mental attitude – this is obviously easier said than done when you are suffering some type of morning sickness. Just try to stay relaxed and avoid stress as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to take some time for yourself – your family will understand.
Vomiting and nausea are an unfortunate side effect from being pregnant for most women. It doesn
